Hayden captained the ’20-21 squad that won, for all intents and purposes, Kentucky’s first “national” championship. That Kentucky team Georgia 20-19 to win the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Championships. It was big – there was a parade in downtown Lexington afterward. Hayden also had a brief stint as a coach, in 1926-27. Inheriting a bare cupboard, UK finished 3-13. Their next losing season wouldn’t come for another 62 years.”
