Kentucky basketball’s first All-American was born on this day

From “The Season Never Ends 2010 Calendar:  “Happy birthday, Basil Hayden.  Of the 39 Wildcat players who have been named All-Americans, Basil Hayden was the first.  Hayden captained the '20-21 squad that won, for all intents and purposes, Kentucky's first “national” championship.  That Kentucky team 20-19 to win the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Championships.  It was big – there was a parade in downtown Lexington afterward.  Hayden also had a brief stint as a coach, in 1926-27.  Inheriting a bare cupboard, finished 3-13.  Their next losing season wouldn't come for another 62 years.”
