Vanderbilt’s star motivated by a text message in win over Kentucky

About 2½ hours before Vanderbilt’s game with Kentucky on Saturday, John Jenkins’ cell phone lit up with a text message from his mother. “I try to talk to him before the game to hear what his voice sounds like, but I didn’t get to do that this morning so I texted him,” Melodye Jenkins said. “I wasn’t sure if he got it or not because he didn’t respond.” So what was her motherly advice? Probably something about playing hard and making sure to drink plenty of fluids, right? Uh, not quite.
